Thanks for your remembrance, Chris. I know we had a lot of fun recording "Reel to Real". We recorded most of it in the basement of my parent's house but, when it was Scott's turn to lay down his tracks, we had to move upstairs to the front room (aka "living room") to get the ceiling height we needed for Scott and his drones!
I only heard him play once, at a Metro Cup many years ago, and it was electrifying. The studio performances of his that I listen to & love are on the "Reel to Reel" and "Piping: Because We Enjoy It" albums. One of my all-time favourite tunes is his hornpipe, "Emily Kate MacClellan". I'm sorry that he was taken before his time. Kind regards.

I think maybe Scott was cut from the cloth of the archetypal Mike Myer's "How I Married an Axe Murderer" type Scot: after a good fight there was always fast making up. Thanks for your remembrance, Iain. M.

Great post Mike, and the pictures are excellent. Nice glasses, haha.

I once witnessed Scott in a tussle on the dock of the Vancouver Yacht Club. There he was, surrounded by rich yacht owners in navy and white, and him squaring off with one of his old buddies, a beer still shoved down in each pants and coat pocket!

A couple of punches thrown, a few names called, then hugs and off to Chinatown for food, where his table ended up ordering some "mystery" dish that had fish eyes around the edge.

Thanks for the shared memories.

I remember that.

I just had a note from Bruce Gandy who has had trouble logging in to word press and wanted me to publish this note:

From Bruce Gandy:

"Mike, I got great news this morning at 9am when the first message on my board was an invite to play at this years Glennfiddich. So I literally yelled out loud and did the fist pump and everything stupid like that cause I was absolutely excited about this, only to get this message a half hour later about Scott and I've been totally bummed for hours. Your story tells such a great picture of Scott and you have taken something sad and brightened up my day again to get back to thinking of the positive things about him. My friend, I thank you for that !

You can publish that if you like, I tried to but had to sign in and didn't have a password etc so couldn't do it. Thanks though for that memory and pictures, well done to you!"

Great memories that perfectly capture Scott's one-of-a-kind spirit and silliness. His Hamiltonian accent will always echo in my head, like at Braemar 1984 when we all had good success (he the "Best Overseas Piper" me getting a prize in the piobaireachd, ahead of Murray Henderson. "You beat Murr-Burr! You beat Murr-Burr!" Classic. Thanks for the memories, MKSM, and for recalling them so well, MG.
